“Seeing professionals play live and talking to them has helped me so much with my vision about music. Now, I cannot imagine myself not doing music, it’s just not me.”
When Farbod Rad (yes, that’s his real name) thinks of bands like Black Sabbath, Queen, Elton John and more from the 70s and 80s, he thinks of his father who possessed a great collection of cassettes. “I remember when I used to play around in the house as a kid, there was always music playing in the background. Until this day, I still have a huge respect for those names and they were the ones who started this whole journey for me.”
Of all the varying genres of music that played a role in his life (like Norwegian Black Metal for instance) and even the instruments he played like the electric guitar, electronic music wasn’t a part of the equation. Well, not yet anyway.
“I used to play electric guitar in a high school band and used to practice and cover songs every day in my bedroom, but then I had no idea about electronic music. I’ve always been eager to learn more when it comes to music and it was only about three years ago that I got myself a DJ controller to see how it’d go. I got inspired from many artists and DJs around the world thanks to Twitch.”
It was also on Twitch where he discovered another vital element of music: community. “When I saw Birdcage live for the first time, I loved their creativity and I appreciated the effort they put into each of their performances. Birdcage is like my family, they believed in me when no one else did and I’ll never forget that till the end. Birdie love is the way!” He now knows music communities from across the globe, which he considers to be one of his fondest accomplishments.

Then, upon moving to Europe where he was able to attend different gigs and festivals, his interest and progress was further accelerated. “Seeing professionals play live and talking to them has helped me so much with my vision about music. Now, I cannot imagine myself not doing music, it’s just not me.”
Farbod is currently a resident DJ at a bar in Budapest and on the topic of his dreams, he says “The dream is to do what I love till the end of my life, that’s the goal and it always will be.”
“I’ve had a hard life owning everything I own today, from where I was born in the first place to many other circumstances. Music kept me going, it gave me a vision which still keeps me going. I’m just happy to be alive to enjoy this life while I can, that’s my motivation.”
